District/School/Class Policies
Absences (Herriman High School Policy)
While students should make every effort to be in class, sometimes absences are unavoidable. When a student is absent and an assignment is due, they will be given 5 school days after the return to school date to turn in any missed work for full credit. After that time the assignment becomes late. If you have trouble completing the work, contact me via email or come see me before class on the day of your return. In cases of extended illness, it is the student‘s responsibility to make arrangements with the instructor if more time is needed.
Tardies (Herriman High School/Class Policy)
When the bell rings, my classroom door closes. Any student who enters the door after it closes will be considered tardy, unless another faculty member excuses them with a note. Persistent tardiness will be dealt with according to school policy, and will affect students’ grade. Beware of attendance school!
Hall Passes (Class Policy)
Each student will be given 3 hall passes at the beginning of each quarter to use however they want. Once those passes are used, students will not be allowed to leave the classroom unless it’s an emergency. Unused hall passes can be exchanged for an extra 5 points on any assignment throughout the quarter. Students wishing to use their hall pass during class will have to place the paper hall pass and cell phone in the holder by the door and sign out/ back in.
Cell Phones (Jordan District Policy)
According to policy, cell phone use during class time, instructional activities, and field trips is prohibited. Cell phones should remain off at these times.
o 1st Offense: Phone will be taken by the teacher and returned at the end of the period.
o 2nd Offense: Phone will be taken and given to administration to be returned at the end of the day.
o 3rd Offense: Phone will be taken and given to administration. The student’s parent or guardian will be contacted to come pick up the phone from the office.
Occasionally, students may be asked to use their phones in class as part of an instructional activity and students will receive permission from the teacher to turn their phone on.
Late Work (Class Policy)
Late work is defined as anything turned in AFTER it is requested by the teacher. Assignments submitted after the deadline will be deducted 50% but can be turned in at any time during the quarter until the cut-off date designated. If absolutely necessary, you may e-mail your assignment to me (as an attachment) to ensure it is in on time. Assignments submitted late need to have a LATE SLIP attached (documenting the original due date, date turned in, etc.) and be placed in the appropriate “Late Work” basket. Students will be given ONE late work pass at the beginning of each quarter to turn in one assignment late with no penalty. If the student does not use it during that quarter, it becomes extra credit. Extenuating circumstances will be dealt with in an appropriate and sensitive manner.
